Program
For Conductors of Opera
The Professional Development Program is pleased to offer
placements for experienced conductors wishing to conduct
opera. We offer the possibility of conducting opera
(standard repertoire) with a professional company and
orchestra in an opera house. At present we are able to
offer PDP operas in Bulgaria.
Conductors will conduct one performance of an opera
currently running in the season. They will have ONE
orchestra rehearsal, ONE soloists' rehearsal, usually ONE
chorus rehearsal, ONE Dress rehearsal and ONE performance.
Because of the risks inherent in conducting opera,
particularly under these relatively difficult conditions,
the program is
limited to suitably experienced conductors. We shall do our
best to supply a videotape of the production (in PAL format)
in advance.

FEES vary according to the number of personnel
(orchestra, soloists, chorus) required to perform the
chosen opera, but will generally range between US $3,500 to
$4,500; Higher prices apply for large operas such as Aida,
Nabucco or Boris Godunov, when and if they are available.

All other conditions are as for PDP concerts: There is
a Processing Fee of $50, payable on application. All travel
and hotel costs are the responsibility of the conductor.
However, local contacts can help you with finding suitable
accommodation. A translator/minder will be available
to you during your stay, both on and off the podium, at an
extra charge of $100 (this is optional, but highly
recommended).
Symphonic Workshops will invoice you on confirmation of
Placement. A deposit of 50% is payable immediately and the
balance must be paid a minimum of three months before your
first rehearsal (placements will automatically be cancelled
if fees are not received in time).
