Professional
Development Program
For Conductors of Opera
SWL established the
Professional Development Program in 1992. Since then we have
arranged over 270 concerts for about 130 conductors with 27
orchestras in six countries. We pride ourselves on offering
the personal service for which Symphonic Workshops is justly
renowned, and for meticulous attention to detail, honed over
16 years of operation.
We also offer the possibility of conducting opera (standard
repertoire) with a professional company and orchestra in an
opera house. The operas available depend on what is
currently playing at our opera houses. At present we are
able to offer PDP operas in Bulgaria. Conductors will do ONE
orchestra rehearsal, ONE soloists' rehearsal, ONE chorus
rehearsal as applicable, ONE Dress rehearsal and ONE
performance. These take place in the 2-3 days before the
performance.
Because of the risks inherent in conducting opera,
particularly under these relatively difficult conditions,
the program is limited to suitably experienced conductors.
FEES vary according to the number of personnel (orchestra,
soloists, chorus) required to perform the chosen
opera. The fee for operas such as Traviata or Barber of
Seville is currently 3200 Euros; higher fees apply for large
operas such as Aida, Nabucco or Boris Godunov, when and if
they
are available. Please contact Tanya Tintner for an
exact quote, and to discuss currently available operas.
All other conditions are as for PDP concerts: There is
a Registration Fee of $50, payable on application All travel
and hotel costs are the responsibility of the conductor.
However, local contacts can help you with finding suitable
accommodation. A translator will be available to you
during your stay at an extra charge of 75 Euros (this is
optional, but highly recommended).
Symphonic Workshops will invoice you on confirmation of
Placement. A deposit of 50% is payable immediately and the
balance must be paid a minimum of three months before your
first rehearsal (placements will automatically be cancelled
if fees are not received in time).
Inquiries & Applications Inquiries and application
